Sydney’s premiership leading jockey Hugh Bowman is far from running scared of star filly Mosheen and is confident Streama has the ability to topple the favourite in Saturday’s Vinery Stud Stakes.
The two Group One-winning fillies will clash for the first time in the 2000m Group One feature at Rosehill with Mosheen installed the $1.60 favourite on Wednesday with TAB Sportsbet ahead of Streama at $2.40.
Mosheen has claimed back-to-back Group One wins in the Australian Guineas and Randwick Guineas while Streama was beaten into fifth last start when taking on older horses for the first time in the Group One Coolmore Classic.
Bowman has formed a wonderful partnership with Streama in the past 12 months and has confidence in the filly to bounce back on Saturday.
“If Streama races up to her best I’m confident we can beat Mosheen,” Bowman said.
“But I have a lot of respect for Mosheen. She’s a triple Group One winner, an outstanding filly and deserves to be favourite.”
Streama steps to 2000 metres for the first time in the Vinery while Mosheen won the VRC Oaks last spring over 2500m.
“It (2000m) is a query but I’m confident she will run really well,” Bowman said.
“I must admit I was a bit disappointed at first the other day after the Coolmore, I really thought that was the race for her.
“But as it turns out the track was playing opposite to how I rode her that day and that’s no fault of hers.
“I thought she sustained a gallop right to the line and the only ones to beat her were Group One performers.
“I think she was far from disgraced and with all due respect to Mosheen, I’m looking forward to taking her on.”
Bowman has ridden Streama in all 11 of her starts which have netted five wins.
The daughter of Stratum won the Group One Flight Stakes by 6-1/2 lengths in the spring and has three other Group Two wins to her credit.
Bowman said he was yet to work out a game plan with a small field of eight runners.
Streama has barrier three and Mosheen seven.
“I’m not sure how I’ll ride her yet but I’m very mindful she was found wanting up on the pace the other day and I’m very mindful she’s going to be over 2000 metres for the first time,” he said.
“We’re going to have to work things out with that in mind.”
